Anaesthesia. Our Treatment Concepts
Prior to surgery.
Important questions about the anaesthesia are answered during a thorough preliminary examination.
Each patient scheduled for surgery is examined by one of our anaesthetists at a premedication appointment held in calm and relaxed surroundings just before the surgery. Questions will be asked about previous illnesses and explanations provided about the different anaesthetic procedures. Once all the important findings have been documented, an anaesthetic procedure will be selected which is safest and gentlest to the patient.
Anaesthesia. More than just sleep
Diverse anaesthetic procedures are used which are tailored to the particular surgical procedure. They have been discussed beforehand with the patient during the anaesthetic consultation as well as discussed and agreed with the surgeon. Aside from balanced anaesthesia, total intravenous anaesthetic techniques are also applied. The selection of the appropriate individual anaesthetic procedure depends on patient's individual condition. All the vital functions are monitored constantly during surgery using state-of-the-art monitoring devices. Consequently, the anaesthetist – who is solely responsible for one patient – is always able to react without delay to any changes which may arise.
Pain relief.
In the event of surgery of the upper or lower extremities, local catheters will also be used in addition to the anaesthesia. The great benefit of such local anaesthesia is that pain does not occur during surgery, or only to a minimal extent, and consequently postoperative pain is also influenced very favourably. To reach this goal we use special perfusors, particularly during the first few hours following the operation, which enable medicines to be administered continually via a catheter. All patients fresh out of surgery are placed for monitoring in a specially designed and equipped recovery room for the first few hours. Large international studies have shown that the healing process is positively influenced by such catheterisation methods.
After surgery.
Patients having undergone surgery will be visited by the anaesthetist to check their well-being - both in the recovery room, immediately following surgery, and during the days following the operation. Should further pain therapy be needed, it can be arranged quickly and sufficiently during such visits.
Emergency care.
All anaesthetists at the Schön Klinik Harthausen have undergone extensive training and have many years of experience in the various fields of emergency medicine. The doctors of the anaesthesiological department work regularly as senior emergency doctors and members of the district emergency services. The coordination and management of emergency care at the clinic is the responsibility of the Department of Anaesthesiology.
