Diagnostic and interventional radiology. Medical Care

Examination procedures with and without X-rays.

Examination of the head using CT.

Radiology is a sector of medicine dealing with the use of imaging procedures. Classic examination procedures but also modern computed tomography work with X-rays. Furthermore radiology also uses procedures not requiring X-rays (ultrasound, magnetic resonance tomography (MRT).

Fast and precise diagnostics with minimum stress for the patient

The equipment we have at our disposal today permits rapid and accurate diagnosis of numerous diseases with minimal stress to the patient. We even use real-time imaging for therapeutic interventions. We work closely together with other clinic departments of the Schön Klinik Hamburg Eilbek. At daily clinical and radiological meetings, our patients' findings are presented and further diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are agreed on.

Our service spectrum - specialisations in the diagnostics field:

Close cooperation with other clinic areas ensures optimum treatment quality.

In order to be able to provide an unequivocal diagnosis, close cooperation with other departments of the Schön Klinik Hamburg Eilbek is an indispensible requirement. Patient findings are presented during daily clinical-radiological meetings and further diagnostics and treatment agreed afterwards with the other specialists in the clinic.

Therapeutic interventions and treatments using real-time imaging.

Besides diagnostic clarification with CT and MRI, the Radiology Department also carries out interventional treatment on vessels, tumours and abscesses. Furthermore inflammation and pain are also treated.

Service spectrum of therapeutic procedures.

  • Treatment of stenoses and occlusions of arteries by dilatation (balloon dilatation; percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, PTA)
  • Dilatation of narrowed shunts in dialysis patients
  • Improvement in circulation through obliteration of vegetative nerve fibres (sympathicolysis)
  • targeted occlusion of tumour vessels (embolisation treatment)
  • Puncture with obliteration of certain benign bone tumours (osteoid osteoma)
  • Puncture and removal (drainage) of oedemas
  • Treatment for abscesses caused by echinococcus
  • Targeted treatment of pain in joints and nerves with medication
  • Switching off nerves in the case of tumour diseases

The focus is always on the person, not only the images from his examination.

With all radiological examinations it is not only about the images necessary for precision diagnostics: Of top priority is always the whole person and his fastest possible recovery. Diagnostics have only fulfilled their purpose once our patients' symptoms have been remedied with the support from our doctors and therapists. In order to be able to cause our patients minimum stress, only low-level invasive procedures are used as radiological therapies and treatments.

The therapy procedures in detail.

  • Interventional treatments of vessels
    • Treatment of stenosed and occluded arteries using balloon dilatation (widening of vessels, PTA) and implantation of vascular supports (stents)
    • Dilatation of narrowed shunts (artificially created connection between two vessels) in dialysis patient
    • Improvement in circulation through obliteration of vegetative nerve fibres (sympathicolysis)
  • Treatment of tumours
    • Embolisation treatment (targeted occlusion of vessels supplying a tumour)
    • Puncture with obliteration of certain benign bone tumours (osteoid osteoma)
  • Treatment of abscesses
    • Puncture and removal (drainage) of oedemas
    • even in illnesses which are caused by echinococcus
  • Pain therapy
    • targeted treatment of joints and nerves with medication
    • Switching off nerves in the case of tumour diseases
