Paediatric Orthopaedics. Our Treatment Concepts
The 3 pillars of Paediatric Orthopaedics
- Conservative treatment within Paediatric Orthopaedics: A very large part of the treatment we offer consists of a conservative approach to patient care and therapy. This involves physical therapy that is problem-based, promotes development and accompanies other treatments. We also provide ergotherapy that is tailored to each patient's needs and medical devices to help make coping with everyday activities as effective and as easy as possible for the patient and their parents/care providers.
- Paediatric Orthopaedics - Surgical Treatment: Surgical treatment takes place when conservative therapy no longer appears to be an option or is proving unsuccessful. Surgical care ranges from minimally invasive procedures and simple soft-tissue techniques (such as lengthening of tendons), through complex corrective surgeries in or lengthening of the extremities using fixation and corrective osteotomies, up to multidimensional pelvic reconstructions. In these cases, surgical procedures are always accompanied and supplemented by conservative measures.
- Use of orthopaedic technology within Paediatric Orthopaedics: In addition to conservative therapy and surgical treatment, patients are also provided with orthopaedic devices, all of which are state of the art, and which range from simple braces to complex prosthetic replacements for the extremities. The decision as to what devices are used will be based on what is medically indicated. Devices will be inspected and accepted by the attending doctor after they have been made.
Our motto is always "As little as possible but as much as necessary!"
