Situated at the foot of the Berchtesgadener Alps, Schönau am Königssee is one of the most picturesque places in Germany. The magnificent mountain backdrop and the famous Königssee Lake in the middle of the Berchtesgaden National Park are special landscape experiences. Popular destinations for excursions are the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest), enthroned 1834 metres above the Berchtesgadener Valley, and the salt mine in Berchtesgaden. For our international guests, one of our partners, the renowned Eagle’s Nest Historical Tours Agency, offers a large number of interesting excursions and round trips in English (also available as a private tour in other languages on request).

The fantastic view of the surrounding mountains make a stay in Schön Klinik Berchtesgadener Land a special experience for our patients and their visitors. The striking Watzmann Mountain (2713 m), the second-highest mountain in Germany, and the Königssee Lake framed by high rockfaces are world renowned. A trip by boat to the St. Bartholomä Peninsula, in the middle of Berchtesgaden National Park, leave behind lasting impressions of unique nature.

Popular places our international patients like to visit.

Salzburg: The old town is one of the world heritage sites of Unesco.

Salzburg: The old town is one of the world heritage sites of Unesco.

Our international patients like travelling to Salzburg (35 kilometres), Munich (160 kilometres) or Vienna (260 kilometres) to go shopping. Also for many patients a trip to the Swarovski Kristallwelten in Wattens ( Tyrol 140 kilometres) and the mountain resort of Zell am See (75 kilometres) is well worthwhile. If anyone enjoys going to casinos, then there are many attractive opportunities both in Bad Reichenhall ( 25 kilometres) and in Salzburg in Schloss Klessheim (34 kilometres).

Salzburg only half an hour's drive away.

Anyone who values art and culture, shopping in traditional shops and the flair of Austrian coffee shops can reach the festival City of Salzburg in around 30 minutes by car. The old city, part of the World Cultural Heritage, is worth a visit any time of the year with a walk or shopping spree with café visit. A large number of museums and galleries, a range of excellent restaurants and a diverse offer of concerts and theatres leave no wishes unfulfilled.

Berchtesgaden with historic old town, castle and salt mine.

Berchtesgaden is around four kilometres from the Schön Klinik Berchtesgadener Land and is easy to reach by bus, which departs from directly in front of the clinic. The historic town centre with the collegiate church and Wittelsbacher Castle as well as the National Park building on Franziskanerplatz are all well worth seeing. The documentation site at Obersalzberg, the salt mine and Watzmann Thermals, a water park and outdoor pool with large health & beauty area, provide interesting alternatives in the immediate vicinity, not only if it's raining.

Walks with fabulous views.

The wide valley of Schönau invites you to take long walks, even on flat paths. There are diverse rambling and bicycle routes through the mountain landscape round about. Apart from cleared rambling routes, in the winter there are cross-country skiing trails, toboggan runs and ski slopes. On Germany's highest golf course, a 9-hole course below the InterContinental Resort of Berchtesgaden, golfers can enjoy the view of the mountains while they play.
