Growth strategy
Continuous and sustainable growth from the start
Since the Schön Klinik Roseneck in Prien am Chiemsee was opened in 1985 as the first Schön Klinik, more facilities have been added over the past fifteen years. All of our clinics have a peak capacity and operate on a profitable basis. A large portion of the revenues are reinvested into our facilities.
Example of success: Schön Klinik Neustadt
At Baltic Sea: Schön Klinik Neustadt
In July 1993, the Schön Klinik took over what was then the District Hospital in Neustadt at Baltic Sea, which was faced with imminent closure. At that time, the hospital had 176 beds and four medical specialisations. Today, the Schön Klinik Neustadt, with its 520 beds, is one of the most capable hospitals in Schleswig-Holstein and has also earned an outstanding reputation internationally. Since the takeover, eight new medical specialisations have been built up piece by piece, starting with Orthopaedics and Spinal Surgery, through to Neurology and Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology. In the period between 1997 and 2005, the number of patients treated increased by an average of 5.8 percent each year. Over the same period, the number of full-time staff almost doubled. Safeguarding and creating jobs is a major core element of the Schön Klinik ethos. The company sees this not only as a means of providing top-class medical care for all groups of the population and investment in the health system, but also as a social responsibility.
Example of success: Schön Klinik München Harlaching
Schön Klinik München Harlaching
Another example is the Schön Klinik München Harlaching. Before being taken over in 1997, the well-known clinic in Munich was a renovation case. Ultimately, the bed capacity was only 54 percent and the clinic was operating with a deficit of seven million marks. The Bavarian Superior Court of Audit (Oberste Rechnungshof) and many politicians from the Munich City Council were demanding the closure of the clinic. Then along came Schön Klinik. 30 million Euros were invested, new medical centres opened, a health centre and outpatient rehabilitation centre with three doctor's practices were set up and a private clinic offering the highest levels of accommodation comfort was established. Today, the Schön Klinik München Harlaching is a state-of-the-art, internationally recognised hospital and treats five times as many patients as it did before it was taken over.
Reliable partner for privatisation projects
The Schön Klinik are 100-percent family owned. The examples of the Schön Klinik Neustadt and Schön Klinik München Harlaching show that transferring a hospital from public to private ownership with the Schön Klinik will become a success story. The public clinics taken over are managed and grown successfully and new jobs are created. Furthermore, patient and employee satisfaction in these facilities is exceedingly high. When public facilities are taken over, cooperation with workplace councils (Betriebsräte) is ensured in all cases. When it comes to patient care, the highest levels of quality of medical care provided in the Schön Klinik is confirmed not only by the quality performance indicators recorded systematically for many years and by surveying patient satisfaction, but also by the many personal comments from our patients.
